With supercar performance and room for four, the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S is already one of the most capable grand touring cars on the road. But for one of our clients, who drives thousands of miles each year, the experience wasn’t complete. He wanted a discreet radar and laser defense system along with an audio upgrade that would deliver exceptional sound quality while preserving the elegance and craftsmanship of the Mercedes brand.
Major Audio System Overhaul
From the factory, this AMG came equipped with a Burmester system that offered decent sound. Respectable, but not unforgettable. Our goal was to create an audio system that combined clarity, depth, and power, while keeping every detail consistent with Mercedes-Benz design.
We began by creating 3D renderings of possible designs and reviewing them with our client. Every element, from speaker selection to materials, was carefully chosen to ensure the final result blended seamlessly with the vehicle’s interior while raising the overall audio experience to a new level.
Behind the Scenes
The system foundation started with a Mobridge integration preamp, which allowed us to bypass the factory Burmester amplifier while retaining all OEM features. To create a quieter, more controlled cabin, we removed the interior and applied Morel’s tri-layer sound-dampening material throughout. Every cable was routed to mirror the factory harness, giving the installation a clean, OEM-level finish.
Custom Door Panels
The Burmester system originally used 4″ components in the doors, but that wasn’t enough for the performance we were aiming for. To make room for the Morel Supremo speakers, we re-engineered the front door panels.
Each panel was disassembled and rebuilt to house a 6″ midbass driver in a custom enclosure, then wrapped in factory Mercedes leather and finished with real matte carbon fiber and brushed silver trim.
The Morel MM3 midrange speaker from the Elate Carbon set was mounted in custom-built housings, while the Supremo Piccolo tweeters were placed in hand-built sail panels. Together, these upgrades created a front soundstage with remarkable detail and balance while still maintaining a factory look.
Center Channel, Midwoofers & Rear Doors
- Center Channel: Upgraded with Morel Elate Carbon tweeter and midrange, neatly hidden under the original grille.
- Rear Doors: Outfitted with Morel’s new Mercedes Reference line speakers, designed specifically to drop into factory locations for a natural rear stage.
- Midwoofers: Installed into the factory firewall positions, completing a fully active 4-way front stage for maximum clarity and depth.
Amplifying and Tuning
A build of this level requires precision power. To give every speaker its own channel while conserving cargo space, we used three Mosconi Pro Class A/B amplifiers: one Pro 5/30 and two Pro 4/10 models.
For fine-tuned control, we installed the Helix DSP Ultra, chosen for its advanced tuning capabilities and seamless integration. The Helix Conductor control knob was tucked into the center armrest alongside the relocated hatch release switch.
Custom Subwoofer & Amplifier Rack
To deliver tight, impactful low-end, we designed a custom sealed enclosure for two Morel Powerslim subwoofers. The enclosure was built to the subs’ exact specifications for maximum performance, while ensuring all factory service points and modules remained accessible.
The enclosure and amplifier rack were finished in factory-matched Mercedes leather and suede, accented with matte carbon fiber and an AMG logo. The end result looks like it came straight from the factory, but performs at a level the factory could never achieve.
